Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10
How do you efficiently reach a community? You serve them. In the past, I have organized outreaches where we served homeless people, but only a few benefited from our work. We have also done children outreach where we served the kids in our community, but usually only twenty or so would benefit from our service. It was on my heart to do something different. We wanted to serve and bless people that truly needed help and support. That's when we found a local Christian ministry that needed help.
Near Salisbury, N.C. there was a ministry called Life Village. An older couple had it in their hearts to build tiny homes for mothers that are at high risk of committing abortion. They would provide shelter, food, and all necessary supplies for the mother and the baby. Their ministry did not stop there. They also wanted to help women who were victims of abusive relationships. Life Village provided a place they could come to find refuge and shelter. I reached out to the owners, introduced myself, and told them that we want to bless them by helping them physically at Life Village. Right away the owner, Ed, said that one of the tiny homes needed a paint job, so I agreed to provide all the necessary paint materials to make this happen. He also needed help moving a lot of construction material around the center and cleaning out the garage. Alex Tokarev, youth pastor of House of Prayer, brought his youth group, and together we were able to bring change into life village. Together we worked for five hours, helping as much as we could.
As I was grilling Hamburgers for the team, Ed came and told me, "We have never had a team come in and help so much, most come for an hour, take a tour of our facility and tell us how to run things. You guys came in and worked!"
Thank you, youth of the House of Prayer Church for coming in and helping us with this task. In the end, we were able to help one of our own.
